Trim Levels (Exterior)
2023 will be the last production year for the current iteration of the Cherokee, and as such, Jeep has embraced simplicity. The 2023 Cherokee family includes only two trim levels, although both offer plenty of capability. The first option is the Altitude Lux. Although it's the base trim, it's no slouch, sporting four-wheel drive, premium nappa leather-trimmed seating, and an extensive suite of safety and driver assistance features. The Altitude Lux features classic Jeep styling and is available in five colors — Diamond Black, Granite Crystal, Sting-Gray, Hydro Blue, and Bright White.
If you're looking for a Jeep, you likely want a little off-road capability. If so, the Trailhawk trim is really the way to go. This model comes outdoors ready with tow hooks, skid plates, a raised ride height, 17-inch diamond-cut aluminum wheels, off-road tires, best-in-class towing capacity, and a full suite of off-roading performance features. It sports classic Jeep good looks and comes in the same colors as the Altitude Lux.
Engine (Power)
While the Cherokee has been kicking around for a while, there's nothing old-fashioned about its powertrain options. Some of the biggest upgrades for 2023 come in the form of improved engine options. The standard powertrain features a 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. This setup kicks out 180 horsepower.
The Trailhawk trim sports a more powerful engine, as befits its backcountry personality. This is a 2.0-liter I4 DOHC DI Turbo Engine with Stop/Start, also paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This drivetrain offers 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
Both members of the 2023 Cherokee family are equipped with a wide range of performance features. Unlike the previous series, four-wheel drive is standard for all trims, making each Cherokee a capable off-road driver. Trailering is essential for those who love the great outdoors, and both Cherokee trims come with a standard towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. For those who need a little bit more, the Trailhawk can be upgraded with the available trailering package, boosting its capabilities to 4,000 pounds. This model also includes a range of other performance features, including a traction management system with five drive modes, an active drive lock 4x4 system with rear locker, and available wading upgrades.
Interior
The Cherokee provides a spacious and comfortable cabin that allows you to ride in style wherever you go. Nappa leather-trimmed seats are standard, and both trims feature an 8.4-inch touchscreen display, the largest standard display in its class. The Trailhawk trim adds a 7-inch driver information digital cluster display.
Safety Features
All Cherokees come loaded with a range of safety and driver assistance features. These include standard blind spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection, adaptive cruise control, full-speed collision warning with active braking, and front, rear, and perpendicular parking assist.
